About Ai4RD
The tool

A second mind forthe rare cases.

Ai4RD is a rare-disease differential reasoning assistant — a thinking surface, not a diagnosing tool. It helps clinicians widen the differential, and helps patients organise what they’re going through. It cites everything it can. It refuses to do the parts that aren’t its place.

How it thinks

Differential reasoning,not diagnosis.

Each substantive answer follows the same structure: a compact synthesis of the pattern, three to five disease considerations ordered by how well the evidence fits, what argues against each, and the evidence that would shift reasoning either way.

The clinician stays in the loop. Ai4RD frames possibilities, not conclusions. It uses words like fits, argues against, and would raise concern for — never rule in or rule out.

What it reads

Citation-first,provenance you can verify.

When a question turns case-specific, Ai4RD reaches for four authoritative sources — peer-reviewed literature, rare-disease databases, and patient-facing references — via scoped tool calls that filter results to those sources:

  • PubMed — the NIH/NLM index of peer-reviewed medical literature.
  • Orphanet — the reference database of rare diseases and orphan drugs.
  • NORD — the National Organization for Rare Disorders.
  • GARD — the NIH Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center.

Every substantive answer ends with a Sources block, so a clinician can check the basis of the reasoning against the literature. If the search comes up empty, Ai4RD says so plainly rather than fabricating a reference.

Two modes

One tool,two registers.

Doctor

Strict clinical register.

Structured output: clinical question, reasoning, differential considerations, evidence gaps, questions to resolve next. Search-grounded. No diagnoses, no prescribing — Ai4RD is a thinking partner, not the deciding clinician.

Patient

Plain language, calm pace.

Validation first. Plain-language explanations. Help organising a timeline, a symptom list, or questions to bring to a clinician. Never names a condition. Defers to the person’s healthcare professional for anything that matters.

Where it stops

Honest aboutwhat it is not.

Ai4RD does not diagnose. It does not prescribe. It does not store conversations server-side. It is a research preview that goes quiet when the upstream service is unavailable, rather than guessing.

Ai4RD is not a medical device. It is not FDA-cleared, CE-marked, or registered with any regulator, and it makes no diagnostic claim that would require clearance. It is not a HIPAA-covered service — do not enter protected health information. It supports a clinician’s own reasoning and is never a substitute for clinical judgment.
